Firefighter’s Holiday Toy Drive
The Firefighter’s Holiday Toy Drive is a 501(c)3 not - for - profit organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged or needy children in Mohave County and its surrounding areas. Our mission is to ensure that no child goes without a gift to open on Christmas morning.

Our Achievements
While precise records for the inception year are unavailable, the Firefighter’s Holiday Toy Drive estimates that it has assisted over 18,000 children in total since 1983. With an annual a verage of around 1,200 children served since consolidation in 2010, the impact continues to grow. In 20 22 , the program distributed an estimated $110,000 worth of toys to 1,100 children. This year, the organization anticipates assisting over 1,500 children.
Our History
Founding (1983)
In the spirit of community service, the Bullhead City Fire Department
and the Bullhead Professional Firefighters Association established the Firefighter’s
Holiday
Toy Drive in 1983. It began as a heartfelt endeavor driven by a small group of
firefighters who recognized the need to bring holiday cheer to local families. With a
touch of magic, they purchased, wrapped, and personally delivered toys in a firetruck
convo
y on Christmas Eve. Although the rumor of Santa Claus’s participation remains
unconfirmed, the tradition began to take root.
Growth and Expansion
As Bullhead City grew and more families were identified in
need each year, the toy drive adapted to meet the
rising demand. It subsequently became
part of the Bullhead Firefighters Charity, a registered 501(c)3 organization. This
transition allowed the toy drive to collaborate with local businesses to collect toys and
monetary donations necessary to fulfill its a
nnual mission.
Regional Expansion (2010)
Building on its local success, the Bullhead Firefighters
Holiday Toy Drive embarked on a journey beyond city limits. In 2010, it extended its
reach to children outside Bullhead City by partnering with fire departme
nts and civic
organizations in neighboring regions. This collaboration helped support existing
programs and bolster struggling initiatives through generous toy and fund donations.
Widening Network
In 2012, the program expanded its reach to include Lake Ha
vasu
City by joining forces with the local firefighters. Over subsequent years, the program
further expanded its coverage, including children in the Desert Hills Fire District, Yucca
Fire District, Fort Mohave Mesa Fire Department, and Mohave Valley Fire D
epartment.
Independence (2017)
Recognizing the need for more independence and flexibility, the
organization restructured in 2017, establishing itself as the independent 501(c)3
Firefighter’s Holiday Toy Drive. This transformation allowed the program to fo
rge
partnerships with governmental and civic organizations, raising funds and collecting tax
–
deductible toy donations.
Streamlined Assistance (2018)
In 2018, a significant advancement occurred through
collaboration with the Salvation Army. The program con
solidated the child application
process for all public safety programs in Western Mohave County. This initiative
streamlined the sign
–
up process for families in need, optimized the distribution of
families to relevant agencies for toy delivery, and helped
mitigate potential issues of
double dipping and fraud.
